Outdoor linear drains: how to choose the right model
Compare concealed outdoor linear drains, pool coping drains, flexible curved drains and perforated grates for planning outdoor drainage.
Read articleChoosing a pool equipment vault hatch involves more than measuring the opening. The model must match the installation method, the desired finish, the maintenance space and the opening system. Defining these points early helps the hatch integrate with the project while keeping pumps, filters and controls accessible.
A flanged concealed hatch suits projects where a perimeter flange can be prepared in the screed. Its recessed tray receives compatible porcelain tile, stone, decking or another finish, keeping the cutout discreet in the floor. The flangeless concealed pool equipment hatch follows the same finish-ready concept but installs directly on the existing structure, without preparing a perimeter flange in the screed.
Concealed models work when the technical access should disappear into the outdoor living area. Flanged and flangeless versions can receive a finish and share features such as a concealed handle, safety latch or gas strut, depending on the configuration. The main choice is the support condition and the construction stage when the hatch will be installed.
Concealed hatches can be configured with a safety latch or a gas strut. A gas strut is recommended from 100 cm onward when the weight of the leaf and finish makes manual opening harder. The decision should consider the centimetre dimensions, applied finish, opening direction and maintenance clearance; it is not an identical promise for every opening.
For renovations, a surface-mounted pool equipment hatch rests on the existing perimeter and reduces work on the surrounding floor. A non-slip hatch suits wet areas or circulation zones with an exposed textured surface. A simple pool equipment hatch provides a functional closure for utility openings that do not need to receive the surrounding finish. Where equipment ventilation is required, a ventilated model must be sized around the specified air inlets and outlets.
Always provide the opening dimensions in centimetres, the approximate thickness and weight of the finish, the support condition and the clearance needed to open the leaf. Also state whether people will walk over the hatch, whether drainage is planned around it and where pumps, filters, valves or controls are located. Made-to-measure production adapts the piece to the project, while support and fall remain installation decisions.
